Joseph Zelinsky, 98, of Van Voorhis, died Sunday, April 22, 2018 at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. Born in Donora on March 14, 1920 a son of the late Martin and Anna Siba Zelinsky. Joseph was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during WW2 from 1941-1945. He served with the 1st Infantry as a Forward Observer in the Big Red One, touring in seven countries, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Joe was awarded 3 Bronze Stars for his military service. Joe retired from Beth Energy and Mine 51 in Ellsworth where he worked for 47 years. He was a member of the Bentleyville American Legion Post 165.
Surviving are his sons; Lawrence of Fallowfield Twp., Ronald & Donald of Monongahela, Joseph (Patricia) of Fallowfield Twp.; a sister Margaret Burgoyne of Monongahela; 8 grand children; 14 great-grand children. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Christena; 3 brothers John, Martin, and Thomas; 3 sisters Ann, Mary, and Theresa; and his grandchild Amy.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 25, 2018 from 6-8pm and Thursday April 26, from 2-4 & 6-8 in the Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Homes, Inc. 405 Main St., Bentleyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 27, at 10am at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Bentleyville with Rev. Edward Yuhas officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
